Discovering Cascade Virtual Academy

“I live in Salem, Oregon, so it was quite a drive to Bend (over 2.5 hours), but it was worth it,” Alysson shares. “I gained a lot of knowledge and confidence using the tools, learned new skills, and recommend this pre-apprenticeship class to anybody who is interested or wants to try something new.”

A Hands-On Learning Experience

For Alysson, the highlight of the program has been the hands-on projects like building picture frames and benches, which have fueled her passion for construction and allowed her to learn by doing.

“Mr. Tatum is patient and takes the time to explain. You don’t need anyone to be there — the program helps you work at your own pace while understanding safety and tool usage,” Alysson notes.

What Sets Cascade Virtual Academy’s Career and College Prep Apart?

Cascade Virtual Academy’s Pre-Apprenticeship Program offers a chance for students to connect in person while pursuing a trade. Alysson, who is used to virtual learning, finds the in-person aspect of the program refreshing.

“I really enjoy being social with people,” she says. “Everyone in the class got to know each other, and we still keep in touch!”

The program’s structure — combining online and hands-on learning — is designed to prepare students for real-world careers while maintaining the flexibility of virtual schooling.

Building Dreams & Encouraging Other Students

Alysson’s ultimate goal is to work in construction after completing the program. With her newfound skills and confidence, she’s well on her way.

“This class has taught me so much about building, safety, and using hand tools. I feel prepared for my next steps,” she says.

When asked what advice she would give to other students considering the program, Alysson doesn’t hesitate:

“Give it a try. You’ll gain confidence, learn valuable skills, and meet great people. Plus, you’ll leave with projects you’re proud of and memories to last a lifetime.”

Are you ready to take the first step toward a career in construction or skilled trades? The Pre-Apprenticeship Program at Cascade Virtual Academy might be your personal pathway to success!
